Air Compressor Installation Notes The previous article briefly introduced some issues that need to be known and understood when purchasing a new air compressor. Continuing from the previous article, this article introduces some key points for on-site installation after purchasing an air compressor, hoping to provide you with help. The article will introduce some attention issues for new machine installation from five aspects.

A. Equipment Acceptance After Arrival:

  1. Check box number, number of boxes and packaging conditions

  2. Equipment name, model and specifications

  3. Random technical documents and special tools

  4. Visual inspection of equipment for defects, surface damage and rust.

  5. Other matters that need to be recorded and checked. Including but not limited to hoisting, inspection after unpacking, installation suggestions given by the manufacturer, communication with manufacturer's technical personnel and verification of whether equipment installation site preparation work needs rectification, etc. Be careful during acceptance. If any damage or inconsistency with the ordered equipment is found, immediately stop acceptance, communicate with the on-site负责人 of the delivery party to confirm the damage, and leave written materials explaining such situation.

B. General Requirements for Installation Site:

  1. Good lighting in the place to facilitate operation and maintenance

  2. Good ventilation, clean air, no dust, low relative humidity. Try to stay away from industrial work areas and water sources.

  3. Environmental temperature should be as low as possible below 40℃. If there are exceptions, additional supply fans or exhaust fans should be installed in the installation site to reduce environmental temperature

  4. For work environments with large dust such as cement factories, front-end filtration equipment should be installed.

  5. Install overhead cranes before installing high-power air compressors to facilitate maintenance.

  6. The distance from the air compressor to the top space is more than 3M. If placed in a closed space, a exhaust fan must be installed, and its exhaust volume should be greater than the sum of the air compressor circulating air and cooling fan air volume

  7. The ground is level and shock-absorbing pads are installed. If the air compressor is installed upstairs, shock-proof treatment must be done to avoid vibration being transmitted downstairs or causing resonance.

  8. The basic maintenance space is 700MM. In addition to the above requirements, additional or deletion should be considered based on unit requirements, actual site conditions and other comprehensive factors

C. General Requirements for Piping:

  1. The pipeline inclination is 1-2 degrees to facilitate pipeline condensate discharge. Note that the inclination direction always faces the end.

  2. Extended pipelines must be connected from the top of the main pipeline. To prevent condensate from entering gas equipment.

  3. Pipeline pressure drop shall not exceed 5% of the compressor design pressure.

  4. Tools that require lubrication should be equipped with triple combinations (air water filter, pressure regulator, oiler)

  5. The main pipeline shall not be arbitrarily reduced. If it needs to be reduced, a reducer should be used.

  6. It is strongly recommended to install dryers and air storage tanks.

  7. Pipelines should minimize valves and elbows.

  8. The ideal piping is to surround the entire work area.

D. General Requirements for Cooling System:

Air compressor cooling systems are divided into two types: air-cooled and water-cooled. Among them, air-cooled requires sufficient air volume and adequate site ventilation. The water-cooled system is relatively more complex than the air-cooled system, and its general requirements are as follows:

  1. Cooling water is soft water. Regularly add water treatment agents. Ensure water quality to prevent corrosion or blockage of coolers. An automatic water supply system should be provided.

  2. The flow rate of the water supply pump must be correctly selected. The cooling tower should be placed in a place where heat dissipation is easy, well-ventilated, and fixed with support.

  3. Cooling water pressure range 0.25-0.35MP

  4. Cooling water outlet temperature below 40℃.

E. General Requirements for Electrical Aspects:

  1. It is best to use a separate power system. Especially avoid parallel use with other systems. Parallel connection may cause air compressor overload due to excessive pressure drop or three-phase current imbalance.

  2. Select appropriate no-fuse switch (NFB) according to air compressor power to maintain the safety of power system and maintenance.

  3. Confirm the correctness of power supply voltage during power distribution.

  4. Correct grounding of motor and system.

  5. Generally specified, three-phase AC motor overload operation, current shall not exceed 3% of rated current. If three-phase current is unbalanced, the ratio of the lowest phase to the highest phase current shall not exceed 5%. If there is voltage drop, the voltage drop shall not be lower than 5% of rated voltage.
